about

The survivor’s numbers are dwindling. The attempt to save their friends and families was ill-fated for many. Zombies are everywhere, they discover. Whatever inflicted the horror is not contained. It goes global and leaves the living to question what choice they have left.

This one was pretty straightforward to tackle. No major surprises in there and everything came together pretty organically, which was very satisfying. I wanted it to evoke the apocalyptic feeling of a zombie outbreak. There’s nowhere you can really go, and there’s nothing you can really do; you survive because your instincts tell you to, but there’s very little actual hope. It’s one of the things that make the zombie apocalypse so scary - its completeness, its utter totality as entire world systems fall apart in the face of a threat that can’t think and has no power behind it except for its insurmountable drive, sheer numbers and ease of reproduction. The hardest part of this song was the gang vocal. It’s a pretty short segment, but I had about 20 vocal tracks going there, all contributed by the Rocking Dead. Each track had to be bitcrushed individually and manipulated so they would all coincide right, which made for a lot of work but I’m happy with the result. Also threw in a little shout-out to my favorite song from Anomaly in the chorus.

lyrics

This Hell where man feeds on his brother
Hunted now we run for cover
As prey we pray for it to end
But the dead to not have wills to bend
Of flesh they were now flesh they crave
No one's coming, we won't be saved

They're everywhere, there's no escape
We carry on, deny our fate
Yet despite how hard we try
The end is extremely fucking nigh

Now we face man's greatest trial
Confronted by death's sickly smile
The truth with which we cannot cope
We search but find there is no hope
Lost
Doomed
Trapped upon this Earth our tomb
Search in vain for answers, why?
Struggle just to wait to die?

Everything we had is gone
Where life once was there now is none
They should have died when sickness spread
But they came back for us instead
This living death that stalks our home
Is all that's here. We are alone.

Where to go? Where to be?
Where can we find sanctuary?
Squaring off against this test
We lost, we fell now we regress

Now we face man's greatest trial
Confronted by death's sickly smile
The truth with which we cannot cope
We search but find there is no hope
Lost
Doomed
Trapped upon this Earth our tomb
Search in vain for answers, why?
Struggle just to wait to die?

What's left of us is scattered wide
We cannot win, we run, we hide
We lost control there's nothing left
Of a will to fight and strength, bereft
Return to ash from whence we came
Life and death: one in the same

Haunted by the mangled cries
It is now we realize
After all is done, and all is said
With a heavy heart full of dread
IT'S WE THAT ARE THE WALKING DEAD!

We have failed our greatest trial
Face extinction's sickly smile
The truth with which we cannot cope
All is gone there is no hope
Lost
Doomed
Trapped upon this Earth, our tomb
Huddle close and wonder why
In fading life we wait to die
